Well, my computer crashed,... then, everything that could
have gone wrong did go wrong as I tried to replace it. Anyhow,... I've updated some things this month, listed in the what's
new,... section, as well as helping out with another Randy Rhoads site. Diary of an Axeman
- a new web site that a friend of mine (Matt) was putting together, that a few of us (Brandon,
Donnie and myself) helped work on, contribute to, etc. That's up and running as of now.
There were some things from this site transferred over to
the Axeman site, as well as some things that I never could include on this site, but we managed to stick 'em
in there,... some work in conjunction with each other and will probably all be compiled on to one main site in the future.
In Search of: The Missing Randy Rhoads Footage
In the course of compiling material for a Randy Rhoads
DVD, it seems that in 1999 when VH-1 was given 7 of the 3/4'' video masters of Quiet Riot,
including footage from the Starwood and the Whiskey from 1979, they were never returned. Any information
leading to the safe return of these videos would be appreciated. No questions asked. Please contact Kevin DuBrow
with any information, or, email me and I can put you in contact with Kevin regarding the missing videos. A reward
may be available.
Todd Seely at www.the-fuze.com let me know about some great Randy Rhoads related interviews that he's got at this site. Kelly
Garni, Bob Daisley, Don Airey, Lee Kerslake and Bernie
Tormé, were a few recent interviews that jumped out when I scaned through.
THE STORY OF THE OZZY OSBOURNE
BAND an unofficial publication
Emm Gryner's compact disc Girl Versions, has what I think
is one of the very best cover versions of the Bob Daisley, Randy Rhoads and Ozzy
classic: Crazy Train. She took an upbeat rock song and turned it into a weeping piano ballad. Girl Versions
was nominated at the 2001 Juno Awards for Best Pop
Album.
Everyone's seen Randy Rhoads with his famous
polka-dot flying V, but what about all of the other guitars he's owned or played? I'm sure there were many, many more than
are pictured here, this is a few of them.
Miscelaneous Guitars
1. Dan Armstong - Taken at Quiet Riot's
first show in June, 1975 at the La Canada Country Club. It was Kevin DuBrow's clear Dan
Armstrong guitar, which you can see him (Kevin) playing in image number 4.
2. Fender Stratocaster - At the Record
Plant in '78 recording Quiet Riot 2. This guitar belonged to the bands roadie Harold.
3. Harmony Rocket - Randy's
first electric guitar. Everyone's heard the stories about that one.
4. Black Gibson SG
- Apparently, this one never stayed in tune.
5. Unknown dark woodgrain Gibson SG
6. Dean Z - With an unknown Dean
guitar (whose production began in 1977).
Flying V Guitars
7. Sandoval Flying V - Randy's
first custom made guitar, built in 1979.
8. Dean Flying-V - Randy playing
DuBrow guitarist Bob Stephen's guitar.
9. Jackson Prototype - Jackson's
'Original Sin' guitar, Randy's second custom made guitar. Built in 1980.
10. Jackson Randy Rhoads
- Randy's third custom made guitar. I'd heard he wanted to call it the Concorde. Built in
1981.
11. Jackson Randy Rhoads - One of a few guitars
being built for Randy at the time of his death.
Les Paul Guitars
12. Gibson Les Paul - The old stand-by. Purchased
for Randy by the members of Quiet Riot.
13. Gibson Les Paul - Randy
with a 1957 Gibson purchased from a guitar tech named Bill Barclay.
14. Gibson Les Paul - Randy
with an "unknown" woodgrain Les Paul.
15. Gibson Les Paul - Randy
with Paul Raskin's (his girlfriend's Brother) guitar.
Acoustic Guitars
16. Garcia - This guitar belonged to the photographer.
17. Unknown - This is not the same guitar
as in image #4. Unknown make and model.
18. Unknown - Who hasn't seen this picture?!
Unknown make and model.
19. Martin - Pictured at Sound City
Recorders with Dennis Wageman's guitar. Dennis was Quiet Riot's manager.
